Posted on June 8th, 2016

Jonesburg, MOGov. Jay Nixon was joined today by community leaders and global officials from CertainTeed Corporation to commemorate the completion of the company’s three-year, $100 million manufacturing and distribution center expansion in Jonesburg.
“Missouri’s manufacturing sector continues to create jobs and grow our economy,” said Gov. Nixon. “CertainTeed’s decision to build in Jonesburg is a testament to our state’s balanced budgets, AAA credit rating, and highly-skilled workforce – the hardest-working men and women in the world.”

The completed Jonesburg complex, which included the construction of a 60,000 square-foot manufacturing facility and 150,000 square-foot warehouse, will serve as the production and distribution site for the company’s highly popular Landmark™ residential roofing shingles. When running at maximum capacity, the facility could produce enough roofing products to cover nearly 200,000 homes per year. The production and distribution center is expected to employ 100 workers, along with an estimated 400 ancillary local jobs created in trucking, welding and maintenance services. The site also serves as the Midwestern production and distribution site for all of the company’s high-performance roofing products, optimally servicing Central U.S. customers which include wholesale building materials distributors.

Founded in 1904 in East St. Louis as the General Roofing Manufacturing Company, CertainTeed has grown into one of North America’s leading manufacturers of building products.  In addition to the Jonesburg facility, CertainTeed operates 10 asphalt shingle plants, one low-slope commercial roofing facility and three stand-alone granule production plants throughout the U.S., which includes the world's largest roofing plant in Oxford, N.C.

“Today marks our official homecoming to this area, from CertainTeed’s humble start in nearby East St. Louis in 1904 to this highly advanced, state-of-the-art roofing facility here in Jonesburg,” said Tom Smith, president of CertainTeed Roofing.  “This day wouldn’t have been possible without the unparalleled collaboration and support from the State of Missouri, under Governor Nixon’s leadership, the Missouri Department of Economic Development, Warren and Montgomery Counties and the City of Jonesburg. We are truly grateful for their support.”

CertainTeed is a North American manufacturer of building materials for both commercial and residential construction and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain SA of France. CertainTeed currently has approximately 6,000 employees and 65 facilities throughout the United States and Canada.  The Jonesburg plant will be the company’s second plant in Missouri, with the other being a roofing granule production facility in Gads Hill. Saint-Gobain operates an additional six building materials distribution and glass bottling facilities in the state.

To assist CertainTeed Corporation in moving forward with its growth plans, the company has been offered a strategic economic incentive package from the state of Missouri that it can receive if it meets strict job creation and investment criteria.
