Explore Modern Manufacturing at Community Event
Posted on September 8th, 2015

In celebration of the 4th annual Manufacturing Day, Component Bar Products (CBP) and Midwest Machine Tool Training Center (MMTTC) will open their doors on October 2, 2015, to more than 400 students and the public in an effort to change people’s perceptions about today’s manufacturing environment and draw attention to the outstanding opportunities a career in manufacturing can provide.

Planned activities include tours of the CBP manufacturing plant and the MMTTC training facility, quad copter demos, and booths with interactive exhibits from area manufacturers, such as:  General Motors, Independent Tool, King Innovation, SunEdison Semiconductor, True Manufacturing, and Zoltek. The community event is scheduled from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at 3855 Corporate Centre Dr., O’Fallon, Missouri.  This event is open to the public and includes free food, prizes, and fun for everyone.

Manufacturing Day is an annual national event held on the first Friday of October.  At the local level it is supported by thousands of manufacturers as they host students, teachers, parents, job-seekers, and community members at open houses, plant tours, and presentations designed to showcase modern manufacturing technology and careers. To mark this year’s event, the City of O’Fallon will issue a proclamation honoring October 2, 2015 as Manufacturing Day at the O’Fallon Chamber’s Industrial Summit breakfast also held that morning.

“There will be an unprecedented shortage of skilled workers as the current manufacturing workforce nears retirement age.” said Erin Williams, President/CEO of the O’Fallon Chamber. “Between now and 2020 there will be an increasing demand for skilled professionals in the manufacturing sector who can design, program, and operate technology.  Getting youth excited about these opportunities will help to fill these roles.”

Manufacturing Day is co-sponsored by Component Bar Products, Midwest Machine Tool Training Center, St. Charles Community College Workforce Development, City of O’Fallon, O’Fallon Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Center of St. Charles County, and Partners for Progress.
